The First Rehearsal

The night before our first rehearsal, I could hardly sleep! Will all the actors turn up? Will they get on? Is the play going to be funny? And so on and so on…

After a brief whole team visit to the Weston Studio (the space where the Scratch performance would take place), as we only have three days, we cracked straight in to rehearsals. As we read through and began acting out the script we were all cracking up! There is always the worry that what is funny to one is not funny to the other, but the fact that everyone was laughing reassured me that Edson had written a cracking play and all the actors are embracing their characters brilliantly.

Anansi rehearsals
Edson as the storyteller
Nadia (Moussalrinka) and Winston (Anansi)
Omer (Muscian) and Kerry-Ann (Moussalrinka’s mother)
Deborah Baddoo (Director) I-Kay (Jo Tell) and Winston (Anansi)

Our rehearsal days are 10am – 5pm with an hour break in between. The breaks have been not just a time to eat and drink but a time to really get to know each other as few of us know or have worked with each other before. The weather is beautifully sunny and hot which adds to the wonder of our working time together. Feeling blessed to be working with such an amazing team.
